Role overview

The Barista is tasked with preparing premium coffee, beverages, and light café items while delivering a welcoming and memorable guest experience. The position focuses on consistency in drink quality, maintaining café presentation standards, and supporting efficient day-to-day operations in a hospitality-led environment.

Core responsibilities

  • Prepare and present coffee, beverages, and light food items to a consistently high standard.
  • Follow recipes and presentation guidelines to ensure each drink is made with accuracy and consistency.
  • Keep the café area and barista counter neat, clean, and well organised.
  • Complete all opening and closing routines correctly and on time.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks assigned by the supervisor or manager.
  • Keep service moving efficiently during busy periods while protecting product quality.
  • Enter orders correctly using POS systems.
  • Handle cash and cashless transactions according to company processes.
  • Monitor stock levels and replenish supplies as needed.
  • Provide friendly, attentive service and make guests feel welcome.
  • Take orders carefully, offer suitable recommendations, and respond professionally to questions or feedback.
  • Help create a relaxed and inviting café atmosphere.
  • Prepare espresso drinks, teas, and other beverages with precision and consistency.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge, including coffee, brewing methods, and menu items.
  • Store and handle coffee beans, milk, and ingredients properly to preserve quality.
  • Check product freshness and presentation throughout service.
  • Support basic equipment upkeep and escalate any faults or issues.
  • Coordinate closely with teammates, kitchen staff, and service teams to ensure smooth service.
  • Assist colleagues during rush periods and contribute where needed across the operation.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, sanitation, health, safety, and fire regulations at all times.
  • Keep the workstation safe, clean, and orderly while respecting company policies and operating procedures.
  • Represent the brand positively, maintain a polished appearance, and bring initiative, professionalism, and enthusiasm to the role.

Experience and qualifications

The ideal candidate should have 1–2 years of experience in a café or food and beverage setting. A basic understanding of coffee preparation and beverage service is expected, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
