Job description

Role overview

Hillingdon Hospital is seeking a Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographer to join its imaging team in Uxbridge. The post involves delivering a broad range of diagnostic examinations, with a strong focus on general X-rays, while keeping patient safety, comfort, and image quality at the centre of every case.

You will guide patients through procedures, position them appropriately, operate imaging systems, and apply radiation protection measures and department rules to support accurate diagnosis. The role is embedded in a busy multidisciplinary setting where you will work alongside radiologists, clinicians, and other healthcare staff to help maintain a timely and effective imaging service.

This opportunity is particularly suitable for a newly qualified or early-career radiographer who wants structured development within a supportive clinical environment. The post includes rotation across multiple areas of the department to broaden experience and ensure service continuity.

Key duties

  • Carry out diagnostic imaging examinations safely and accurately, mainly plain radiography / general X-rays.
  • Explain procedures clearly to patients and support informed cooperation and consent.
  • Position patients correctly to achieve high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Use imaging equipment in accordance with local procedures and safety standards.
  • Apply radiation protection principles to safeguard patients, colleagues, and yourself.
  • Review images for technical quality and diagnostic suitability before they are sent for reporting.
  • Complete daily equipment checks to confirm imaging systems are working safely and effectively.
  • Maintain infection prevention and control standards, including cleaning equipment and clinical work areas.
  • Carry out quality assurance activities as required by departmental and regulatory processes.
  • Check and restock the crash trolley so it remains ready for emergency use.
  • Collaborate effectively with radiologists, clinicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Keep patient records and documentation accurate and aligned with NHS requirements.
  • Rotate through different parts of the department, including A&E, inpatient, outpatient, and theatre areas.
  • Work shifts that include nights, weekends, and on-call cover.
  • Prioritise urgent cases and help manage workload to support smooth service delivery.
  • Take part in ongoing training and professional development.
