Role overview
Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services is seeking bakers to join the Louisiana State University campus dining team in Baton Rouge, LA. The role is available on both full-time and part-time bases and is focused on producing baked items that meet recipe, quality, and service standards.
Work location
Louisiana State University - South Stadium Dr Administrative Support Building, Baton Rouge, LA 70803. Applications are accepted online only.

Compensation
The pay rate for this role is between $13.00 and $17.00 per hour.
Job summary
This position is responsible for preparing baked goods in line with recipes and production plans. The baker supports daily food production, maintains quality and safety standards, and helps keep the work area clean and organized.
Key duties
- Prepare breads, pies, cakes, cookies, and other pastries according to production and catering sheets, and help plan output to meet daily demand.
- Use approved recipes, production standards, and appropriate equipment to ensure food is prepared correctly.
- Maintain production records, including waste logs, used and unused portions, and product shortages, and alert the supervisor when supplies run low.
- Monitor presentation, portion sizes, food quality, and serving temperatures to keep items consistent and appealing.
- Keep equipment, utensils, and the work area sanitary, orderly, and clean.
- Handle all food safely and in compliance with required safety rules during preparation and service.
- Clean the workstation and equipment thoroughly before moving on to other tasks.
- Interact politely with customers, address complaints in a service-focused way, and pass relevant concerns to supervisors.
- Work efficiently during busy production and service periods while staying calm and accurate.
- Ensure food is displayed, served, and presented according to standards.
- Follow sanitation, food-handling, and OSHA-related safety practices at all times.
- Complete assigned shift duties promptly and thoroughly.
- Carry out additional responsibilities as needed.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of prior baking experience is preferred.
- Ability to work AM and/or PM shifts, with scheduling based on business needs.
- Capability to follow recipes, food safety rules, sanitation standards, and production procedures.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Additional information
This is a campus-based food service position, so there may be times when work is not required during academic breaks such as winter or summer, when food service demand drops or stops. These periods may be unpaid and treated as a temporary layoff. Depending on business needs, year-round work or reassignment to a different location during break periods may be required.
