Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and precise Autobody Refinish Technician responsible for prepping vehicles for paint and performing high-quality painting that meets or surpasses factory finish standards. The ideal technician is experienced in vehicle surface preparation, accurate colour matching, paint application, and maintaining an efficient workflow in a busy collision repair shop. Key Duties
- Clean, sand, mask, and prime vehicle surfaces following manufacturer and paint supplier guidelines to prepare for painting.
- Use appropriate sanding techniques and tools to achieve smooth finishes.
- Apply masking materials to prevent overspray and contamination of vehicle surfaces.
- Mix paints, primers, and other materials according to manufacturer instructions.
- Perform colour matching including spray-out cards and tinting to ensure precise finish.
- Apply multi-layer paint processes to match or exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) finishes.
- Ensure surfaces are free of dirt, debris, and imperfections for proper paint adhesion.
- Check work orders thoroughly and confirm all parts and materials are available before painting.
- Meet department schedules and production goals to maintain efficient workflow.
- Move vehicles safely within the paint department, demonstrating careful handling of customer vehicles.
- Work collaboratively with paint and production teams to uphold quality and productivity.
- Operate and care for painting tools, including spray guns and equipment.
- Optimize material use to reduce waste while ensuring high repair quality.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace, adhering to all safety protocols and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Dispose of hazardous waste materials responsibly.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Autobody Refinish Technician, Painter, or Prep Technician.
- In-depth knowledge of sanding, masking, priming, and refinishing processes.
- Familiarity with automotive paints, primers, spray equipment, and refinishing systems.
- Skilled in accurate colour matching and paint blending techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and dedication to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective time management and organizational skills in a high-paced production environment.
- Valid driver's license required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Work Environment
- Exposure to fumes, dust, chemicals, paint materials, noise, temperature variations, and shop tools/hazards.
- Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
