Auto Service Person II with Towing Experience

Overview

The City of Edmonton is seeking an Auto Service Person II / Tow Tech to support fleet reliability through hands-on vehicle towing, recovery, delivery, inspection, and non-mechanical servicing. This role contributes directly to the smooth operation of the organization’s vehicle and equipment fleet.

Key duties

• Transport units to commercial suppliers and operate different vehicle types to help with diagnosis and repairs.
• Tow or drive faulty automotive equipment to repair facilities.
• Use four kinds of tow trucks: light-duty, single-axle deck, tandem-axle deck, and tractor Landoll trailer.
• Carry out non-mechanical maintenance and install parts such as batteries, fuses, bulbs, lenses, heater hoses, signal light flashers, radiators, and wiper blades.
• Provide boost services and complete field servicing assignments as required.
• Take part in an on-call schedule for one week each month, from Monday to Monday.
• Inspect visible components including tie rod ends, universal joints, brake hoses, exhaust systems, and oil/coolant systems for wear or leakage, then report concerns to a Journeyperson or Foreperson.
• Welcome customers, help identify issues, and guide them toward services available through the Branch.
• Complete other assigned work as needed, including cohort flagging duties.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education.
• Some practical experience servicing automotive vehicles and equipment.
• Preference for candidates with 5 or more years of towing and roadside assistance experience.

Assets

• WreckMaster Level 2-3 certification, especially for those working directly in the tow shop.
• Understanding of load securement requirements.
• Knowledge of Hours of Service rules.
• Proof or a letter confirming towing-industry experience.
• Traffic flagging training.

Employment conditions

• Selected candidates must be medically fit to wear a respirator and comply with the City of Edmonton’s respiratory protection code of practice, including medical monitoring.
• Compliance with the City’s PPE requirements, including steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
• Employment depends on a satisfactory enhanced security check and/or vulnerable sector check, and related costs may apply.
• Ability to pass a job-related physical abilities assessment (F.A.R.E. test) and a pre-employment City medical exam is required.
• A valid Alberta Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence with air brakes endorsement (Q) is required.
• Maintaining a City Driver’s permit is also required.

Work environment

The position involves working in a range of conditions and may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical and electrical hazards, and changing weather.

This posting is for up to one permanent full-time position. The role is scheduled for 40 hours per week. The closing date is July 10, 2026 at 11:59 PM MDT. Compensation

The hourly wage is $34.208 to $34.987, which equals approximately $71,426.300 to $73,052.860 annually.
