Job description
About the role
V/Line is seeking Authorised Officers for multiple permanent full-time positions based at Geelong Station. This role sits within the Customer team and plays an important part in keeping the network safe, welcoming and well managed. You will help deter and report anti-social behaviour, vandalism, fare evasion and other offences across trains, stations and other V/Line premises.
The position operates on a rotating roster and includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and public holidays. Travel across the network will be required based on operational needs, and sign-on at other locations within 80 km of the home depot may also be necessary.
About V/Line
V/Line connects Victorians through safe, reliable and accessible transport, supporting access to work, education, family, services, tourism and trade. With expanding services, major projects and a large weekly train and coach network, the organisation is growing rapidly and offers a dynamic environment for people who want to make a difference.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will record offences under the Victorian Transport Act and Regulations, prepare accurate reports, and support the prosecution process where needed. You will also provide written updates on security and anti-social incidents for management meetings, assist with customer service at special events, respond to network disruptions and incidents, and work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
You will be expected to maintain a visible presence, promote safe behaviour, and uphold V/Line’s approval and reporting requirements while building strong working relationships across the business.
Candidate profile
V/Line is looking for a professional, customer-focused person with strong observation, communication and reporting skills. The ideal candidate can handle confrontational situations calmly, use de-escalation techniques effectively, and maintain safety, compliance and professionalism at all times.
You should be able to prepare high-quality written reports, work cooperatively with others, and provide evidence in court if required. A commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for customers and employees is essential.
Training and location requirements
This intake includes both qualified and non-qualified Authorised Officers. If you do not already hold the relevant accreditation under the Transport Act Victoria, you must be willing to complete 10 weeks of full-time on-site training to obtain it.
The role is based out of Geelong Station. For fatigue management purposes, applicants should live within 1 hour or 80 km of Geelong. You must also be able to begin shifts at other locations within 80 km of your home depot when operationally required.
Additional information
This position will be paid under the V/Line Rail Operations and Administration Employees Agreement 2023. The trainee AO 1.1 rate is $39.33 per hour, and once fully qualified the rate increases in stages to AO Grade 1 at $48.07 per hour.
Selection may include aptitude testing, a behavioural interview, and a medical risk category 3 assessment. Successful applicants will also need to complete relevant pre-employment and medical checks to meet V/Line’s safety requirements. The organisation is a Child Safe employer and values diversity, inclusion and respectful workplaces. Applications from First Peoples are encouraged.
Why join V/Line
V/Line offers free myki travel, the chance to create real community impact, and the opportunity to be part of a fast-changing organisation. The team environment is supportive and collaborative, and flexible working is encouraged where possible.
If your background does not match every requirement, V/Line still encourages you to apply and welcomes diverse perspectives and growth potential.
