Job description

Position Overview

The Smithsonian Institution is seeking an Audiovisual Production Specialist to join their team in Washington, DC. This role involves collaborating with colleagues to establish standards ensuring that exhibit media is educational, engaging, maintainable, and capable of upgrades. The specialist will lead the internal media team in designing multimedia exhibit content, managing timelines and budgets, and emphasizing key messages within the artworks.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the internal media team to define and uphold exhibit media standards ensuring appropriateness, engagement, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate on planning and producing exhibit media designs, adhering to schedules and budgets while emphasizing critical thematic elements.
  • Supervise the installation of audiovisual media components, coordinating with internal staff, external vendors, and partners to align schedules, deliverables, and project budgets.

Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates must have an undergraduate or graduate degree in photography, radio/television production, motion picture production, or related fields. Vocational or technical training above high school in these areas may substitute on a month-for-month basis for experience. Additionally, one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 federal level, is required. This experience should involve managing technical setup and production of audio-visual and time-based media installations in museum exhibitions, including equipment setup, media integration, testing, playback, troubleshooting, and collaboration with exhibition teams.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of a Pre-employment Background Investigation.
  • Potential completion of a probationary period.
  • Maintaining an active bank account for direct electronic deposits.
  • Mandatory registration with Selective Service for males born after December 31, 1959.
