Role overview

Chesterfield Fire and EMS is hiring a full-time Audio-Visual Production Specialist to deliver technical and creative support across the Fire and EMS Department, Police Department, and other county teams when needed. The position focuses on building and producing multimedia content, assisting with computer and program development tasks, creating digital photography assets, working with professional editing tools, and coordinating ceremonies and special events. The specialist will partner with the Technical Services Unit, the Public Information Manager, and operational staff to help communicate media, messaging, and training material effectively throughout the organization.

What you will do

  • Support classroom and Public Safety Training Center audiovisual systems.
  • Identify issues and maintain Clickshare, Crestron, Windows/macOS, and related AV equipment.
  • Operate projectors, displays, audio gear, production cameras, lighting, and teleprompters.
  • Record and produce photos, videos, training materials, and weekly Crime Solvers Tip videos.
  • Prepare AV and recording setups for interviews, classes, trainings, and special events.
  • Edit and deliver multimedia content using Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Create AV programs for Fire, Police, and other county departments.
  • Provide sound and media support for ceremonies, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, and presentations.
  • Direct and produce graduations, award ceremonies, and other departmental events.
  • Work with General Services to create and distribute Fire Department Access IDs.
  • Set up and take down classroom partitions, tables, and chairs.
  • Handle routine maintenance, coordinate repairs, and organize media archives and consumable supplies.
  • Coordinate with PIO staff, instructors, and leadership to plan and deliver content.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Working environment

This role is based in offices, classrooms, training facilities, and at times in field settings. The job may involve standing, bending, lifting, and moving equipment, and the schedule may need to change to support departmental needs.

Schedule

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends required.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $50,649.00 to $68,375.00.

Minimum qualifications

Applicants should have an associate degree in communication, journalism, or a related discipline, plus two years of experience in planning, directing, developing, and producing audiovisual projects. An equivalent mix of education, training, and experience may also be considered.

Candidates must have knowledge of video editing tools, digital content creation software, and general audiovisual production practices. They should be comfortable working with audio/video production principles, video, audio, photographic, and studio recording equipment, computer systems, audiovisual tools, and multiple editing applications. Strong creativity, time management, verbal and written communication, and the ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external customers are essential. Familiarity with television or internet production, editing, and graphics is also expected.

Preferred experience

Experience with livestreaming platforms, video encoding, instructional or training-oriented media production, and content management systems such as SharePoint is preferred, along with experience in a public safety environment.

Additional requirements

Applicants must be able to lift and move at least 50 pounds of audiovisual equipment, travel between county facilities as needed, and be willing and able to obtain an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.

A current valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. Under the Virginia DMV point system, the record must not show six or more demerit points within the 24 months before the expected hire date, one major violation worth six demerit points within the 36 months before the expected hire date, or a DMV point balance below negative one. If the applicant has an out-of-state driving record, it must be obtained by the applicant and brought to the interview; it should cover at least three years of history and be dated within 30 days of the interview.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI background screening, and education/degree verification are required. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
