Overview

This senior leadership role oversees the comprehensive management of facilities across all campuses within the college district. Key responsibilities encompass supervision of maintenance operations, mechanical and building systems, groundskeeping, custodial services, energy conservation initiatives, locksmith services, and the management of the institutional vehicle fleet. The role also provides strategic direction for planning, design, and execution of construction and renovation projects.

Financial and Contract Management

The position manages budgets, purchasing, contracts, and procurement activities to ensure efficient operations and financial stewardship across all maintenance functions.

Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Serving as the College's Chief Fire Official, the incumbent leads fire safety planning, inspections, and compliance related to existing facilities, construction, and renovation projects. This includes enforcing fire prevention policies, addressing violations, managing life safety systems, and coordinating emergency preparedness efforts to maintain campus safety and continuity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive maintenance programs covering deferred, preventive, corrective maintenance, and asset replacement for buildings, grounds, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Manage maintenance operations through work order systems, prioritize tasks, ensure timely and quality service delivery campuswide.
  • Supervise fleet and mechanical services including vehicle maintenance, lifecycle planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Direct locksmith services and access control systems to maintain security and accountability.
  • Oversee custodial operations ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, staffing, and event support services meet institutional standards.
  • Coordinate event logistics including furniture and equipment setup for institutional and community needs.
  • Administer environmental abatement, ADA compliance, and life safety upgrades for regulatory adherence and risk reduction.
  • Promote sustainability through energy, water, and environmental conservation programs.
  • Investigate incidents related to accidents, fires, injuries, and safety hazards; recommend corrective measures.
  • Lead daily fire prevention and inspection activities, oversee life safety system maintenance and compliance.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel including staffing, performance, training, and development.
  • Review and approve plans for new construction and renovations ensuring fire and life safety code compliance.
  • Manage environmental health and safety inspections and compliance with educational and governmental regulations.
  • Collaborate with campus leaders, external agencies, and fire authorities to enhance emergency preparedness and safety programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • At least 12 years of relevant professional experience, including 8 years in management and 5 years within post-secondary education.
  • Experience with fire code enforcement, life safety systems, or fire marshal/chief duties.
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector in Florida (required or within one year of employment).
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License (required or obtainable within 30 days of hire).
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, including SREF, EPA, ASHRAE, and Florida Building Code.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of facilities management and building systems.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety codes and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in construction design, energy management, and sustainability practices.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and manage budgets effectively.
  • Proficiency with computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, and project management.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to lead multiple priorities autonomously.

Additional Information

  • Salary ranges from $115,500 to $130,500 based on experience and education.
  • Position requires 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with variable weekend duties.
