Job description

About the role

L.A. Times Studios LLC aims to be a leading studio for ambitious, meaningful storytelling. The team focuses on expanding beyond traditional media by experimenting with new formats and platforms to connect with broad, international audiences. Its work is supported by advertising, branded content, event production, products, and business development.

The Associate Producer will work under general supervision and help the production team deliver projects smoothly from start to finish. This role supports a variety of production needs across studio and field shoots, including logistics, research, asset collection, and on-the-ground production assistance. You will collaborate closely with hosts, producers, directors, and other production staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support the production team across pre-production, production, and post-production so projects move forward without disruption.
  • Collect, sort, and manage media assets such as footage, still images, and audio files for editing and production use.
  • Provide practical support on set by handling equipment, coordinating with crew, and addressing daily production requirements.
  • Research topics thoroughly to help shape scripts, develop story angles, and satisfy project needs.
  • Find and secure supporting materials such as archival clips, images, and reference references that strengthen creative work.
  • Prepare and share research notes, background information, and source material to assist creative and production decisions.
  • Track project assets carefully and maintain inventory records so usage is documented accurately and aligned with budgets.
  • Check, organize, and file production paperwork such as release forms, permits, and agreements to keep records complete and compliant.
  • Create and maintain an orderly filing structure for quick document access and future reference.
  • Act as a communication bridge between the crew and production management during shoots or recordings, helping resolve issues promptly.
  • Organize, label, and ingest daily footage, confirming that all materials are accounted for and complete for the editing team.
  • Offer hands-on support for technical, logistical, and operational needs to keep production workflows running efficiently.
  • Monitor equipment and supply inventory, and respond quickly to shortages or repairs to avoid delays.
  • Take on additional tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of practical experience in a production environment, ideally within media or entertainment.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving production settings with tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of studio and field production processes, including pre-production, live shoots, and post-production.
  • Ability to balance several projects and tasks at once while maintaining quality.
  • Strong ability to adapt priorities when schedules change, while staying detail-oriented.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for high-pressure situations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with teams, clients, and talent.
  • Practical experience using teleprompters during studio shoots, including pacing and script scrolling.
  • Ability to diagnose teleprompter hardware and software issues.
  • Experience with production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro and After Effects, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.
  • Hands-on familiarity with studio equipment such as cameras, audio mixers, lighting setups, and switchers.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, or extended hours when production demands require it.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Film, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related discipline is preferred.
