Join Worley, a leading global professional services firm in energy, chemicals, and resources sectors, committed to creating a more sustainable world with a workforce of nearly 50,000. Headquartered in Australia, we are driven to advance sustainable energy while supporting essential energy and resource needs.

We promote flexible and hybrid work arrangements, ensuring our employees maintain a healthy work-life balance for better safety, health, and productivity.

Position Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Power System Engineer to become part of Worley Consulting's Power Networks team. In this role, you'll assist with the grid connection processes for large-scale renewable energy initiatives within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).

Reporting to the Power Systems Technical Director, your tasks will involve power system analysis, regulatory documentation, coordination of modeling efforts, and ensuring compliance during commissioning. You'll gain extensive technical experience in wind, solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), hybrid projects, and conventional synchronous generation.

Key Duties

  • Assist clients with grid connection processes from feasibility through generator registration and final commissioning.
  • Manage connection enquiries and applications including R0 and R1, coordinate GPS documentation, compliance reports, and consultant contributions.
  • Oversee, assess, and contribute to power system studies and grid modeling activities utilizing software such as PSCAD, PSS®E, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Support grid commissioning tasks and GPS compliance including hold point testing and model validations under the relevant regulatory frameworks (NER and ESM Rules).
  • Prepare technical reports, regulatory correspondence, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal development, engineering, and project teams to aid in grid program planning and risk management.
  • Participate alongside senior engineers in discussions with electricity market operators, network service providers, clients, and consultants.
  • Stay current with NEM and WEM regulatory frameworks, including relevant standards and processes.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members on grid connection, modeling, compliance, and regulatory matters.

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in power systems engineering, grid studies, or renewable energy projects within the NEM and/or WEM environment.
  • Basic understanding of the NEM and/or WEM frameworks, relevant rules (NER or ESM), and network service provider connection standards.
  • Some experience with hold point testing and commissioning activities.
  • Proficiency with power system modeling software such as PSCAD, PSS®E, and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Familiarity with introductory Python scripting.
  • Strong analytical abilities paired with excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Effective communication skills and eagerness to learn.

Benefits and Opportunities

  • Engagement with complex and high-profile renewable energy grid connection projects.
  • Mentorship from seasoned grid engineers and the Power Systems Technical Director.
  • A defined technical growth pathway including advanced training and support for obtaining professional certifications.
  • Chance to build specialized knowledge across both the NEM and WEM markets.
  • Opportunities to lead and contribute significantly to projects advancing the low-carbon energy transition.
  • Flexible work options, supportive leadership, and a culture that values senior expertise.
  • Recognition of your contributions and the ability to collaborate within diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
