Associate, Equity Research - Energy Sector

About the Role

Join a dynamic, results-oriented team at Scotiabank in New York City as an Associate in the US Equity Research Energy division. You'll play a vital role within Global Banking and Markets, a prominent North American capital markets and investment banking platform with an extensive history and growing footprint in the US and Latin America. The role supports Scotiabank's mission to connect clients with global trade and investment opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Foster a client-centric approach by enhancing relationships with clients and leveraging broader internal networks and resources.
• Collaborate closely with the Senior Analyst to support daily tasks such as updating financial forecasting models, maintaining current company data, and monitoring both domestic and international economic trends.
• Analyze daily news feeds to identify information affecting macroeconomic, sector-specific, and company performance drivers.
• Maintain communication with company management to gain insights into events impacting company results.
• Prepare well-articulated research reports detailing firm recommendations and commentary on economic developments.
• Assist Senior Analysts in launching coverage on new companies and in authoring thematic and industry research publications.
• Coordinate with sector peers across the US, Canada, and Latin America on industry analyses, company reports, and events involving clients and corporate partners.
• Support sales and trading teams in investor communications and facilitate corporate marketing initiatives by organizing meetings with industry and corporate stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to Scotiabank's risk culture and appetite in daily decision-making and operational activities.
• Promote and uphold efficient operations that align with Scotiabank’s values, code of conduct, global sales principles, as well as compliance and risk management frameworks including AML/ATF and sanctions.
• Contribute to fostering a high-performance, inclusive work environment.

Qualifications and Skills

• A university degree is mandatory; preferred fields include business, economics, engineering, or computer science/programming.
• Required regulatory qualifications comprise FINRA SIE, S-63, S-86, and S-87 certifications.
• Proven expertise in accounting, financial modeling, and analytics.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
• Experience in a financial, engineering, or tech/analytical role involving programming skills is essential.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Knowledge or experience in capital markets is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, and AI tools will be considered a plus.
• Additional professional credentials such as P.Eng, MBA, CPA/CA, or progress in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program are favorable.
• Sound business judgment and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to manage pressure and meet tight deadlines, including during extended periods.
• Capacity to juggle multiple ongoing assignments efficiently.
• Highly motivated, detail-oriented, hardworking, and team-focused individual.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is between 155000 and 225000 USD annually, subject to the candidate's experience, skills, and knowledge.
