Job description
Position Overview
Colorado College in Colorado Springs seeks an Associate Director of Events to oversee and enhance the department of Conferences & Community Events. This leadership role involves managing comprehensive event operations, fostering partnerships that generate revenue, and contributing strategically to the college's mission.
Work Schedule and Location
- Full-time, 12-month position
- Works approximately 40 hours per week, totaling 2080 hours annually
- Position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary
- Onsite internship location at Colorado College’s main campus
Key Responsibilities
- Act as principal liaison for external clients to coordinate and deliver successful conferences and events aligned with client goals
- Manage requests for proposals (RFPs), contracts, client screening, budgeting, and event logistics
- Coordinate with campus service providers such as food, housing, and custodial staff to ensure quality standards
- Lead the department’s daily operations, seeking improvements in efficiency, service quality, and teamwork across functions
- Oversee recruitment, training, and management of event personnel, including temporary staff
- Build and maintain productive relationships with campus stakeholders and the wider community fostering inclusive and respectful engagement
- Serve as the department’s representative to the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau to strengthen community collaboration
- Manage a $600,000 annual budget for event-related revenue activities, including budget creation, invoicing, payment tracking, and financial reporting
- Regularly assess and update pricing models to remain competitive within peer institutions
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- Five years of relevant professional experience; substitutions allowed for equivalent academic coursework or experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Meeting Planner credential
- Background in event planning within higher education settings
- Familiarity managing operational systems and leading cross-functional teams
- Experience using Momentus Event & Venue Management Software
- Strong results orientation with budgeting and forecasting expertise
- Business acumen and attention to detail
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to foster positive, inclusive relationships across diverse cultural groups and adhere to antiracism best practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Additional Requirements
- Supervisory responsibilities over event staff
- Must be eligible and able to drive Colorado College vehicles
- Availability for evening and weekend work as needed
- The position is exempt/salaried
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $58,096 - $69,715 annually
