Job description

About the Foundation

The organization is a major nonprofit focused on reducing poverty, disease, and inequity worldwide. Its purpose is rooted in the belief that everyone, regardless of background or identity, should have the opportunity to live a healthy and productive life. The workplace is designed to be inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities it serves, and it offers a strong benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage without employee premiums, generous paid time off, paid family leave, employer-funded retirement contributions, regional holidays, and access to employee communities.

The Team

The Communications Division, headed by the Chief Communications Officer, is responsible for shaping and delivering the organization’s global communications approach. It combines internal and external communications efforts to support the mission of building a more equitable world. Within this division, the Campaign Planning & Channels Management team uses storytelling, events, and integrated campaigns to strengthen trust, elevate reputation, and encourage public support. This team manages key external platforms, including the website, newsletter, and organization-wide social media channels.

Your Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Strategist, you will help execute social media engagement plans that support advocacy and brand objectives. The role covers the organization’s main global social channels across LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, and TikTok. You will help develop content aligned with the social media strategy, including creative briefs and cross-channel promotion plans. The position suits someone who can juggle multiple campaign priorities, adapt quickly to changing needs, and contribute to content aimed at online audiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Help implement platform-specific social media plans that support broader communications, channel, and social strategy goals.
  • Oversee daily execution for key social channels, working with producers and agencies to create content, draft or review captions, and occasionally contribute directly to creative production.
  • Assist with the creation of creative briefs and serve as a key contact for agencies supporting social media plans, while coordinating closely with the Global Brand Experience team on content development.
  • Work across content, brand, channels, and audience engagement groups to shape, refine, and strengthen brand strategies.
  • Partner with agencies and contractors to build and review social content, ensuring feedback is clear, useful, and timely.
  • Track platform shifts, effective formats, and cultural moments to improve audience reach and engagement.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, questions, and mentions across social channels to encourage meaningful two-way dialogue and build trust in the organization’s work.
  • Be willing to travel up to 30% domestically and internationally.

Experience and Skills

You should bring a bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience, ideally in communications, journalism, literature, public relations, or political science. The role calls for strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of internal and external partners to process new information, support decisions, and achieve outcomes. You should also have experience with social publishing tools such as Opal, Sprinklr, or Sprout Social, plus a basic understanding of social media best practices. Experience communicating about complex global and domestic issues such as poverty, health, education, climate, and gender equality is important. Background in an agency account management, creative producer, or marketing/communications role is preferred, along with the ability to film, edit, or produce video content and use Adobe Creative Cloud for video or graphic editing. Strong project management skills are also needed.

Additional Requirements

Applicants must have unrestricted authorization to work in the country where this role is based. The organization does not offer immigration sponsorship for this position, including direct sponsorship or support for work authorization processes such as H-1B, O-1, L-1, E, OPT, STEM-OPT, CPT, TN, or J-1.

Compensation

The stated salary range for this role is USD 118,200 to USD 177,200 per year. For offices in Seattle and Washington, DC, the range is USD 130,000 to USD 195,000 per year. New hires are generally placed between the minimum and the midpoint of the applicable range, depending on job-related skills, experience, and expertise evaluated during the hiring process.

Hiring Requirements

Employment is conditional on successfully completing a background check.

Candidate Accommodations

The organization is committed to an accessible and inclusive hiring process. Candidates with disabilities or medical conditions who need accommodations during the application or interview process can request support such as an ASL interpreter, an alternate interview format, or physical accessibility assistance. Requests should be sent confidentially to HR@gatesfoundation.org with the position number and a short description of the accommodation needed.

Inclusion Statement

The organization believes in equal value for all lives and is committed to a workplace that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion across voices, ideas, and approaches. Employment practices are designed to provide equal opportunity and fair treatment without discrimination based on race, color, age, religion, pregnancy, sex, sexual orientation, disability, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, genetic information, veteran status, marital status, or prior protected activity.
