Role Overview
This position involves conducting comprehensive Know Your Customer (KYC) due diligence and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) audits for clients across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Duties include identifying Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), reviewing adverse news, collaborating with internal teams, escalating complex issues, maintaining client information within KYC systems, preparing management reports, and contributing to project work such as User Acceptance Testing. Additionally, the role includes mentoring junior colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough KYC due diligence on new and existing clients in Asia Pacific and Middle East, acting as Maker or Checker.
- Perform thorough screening for PEPs and adverse media that may pose reputational risks to the bank.
- Coordinate with Front Office and Portfolios team to gather necessary KYC documentation and information.
- Escalate complex or unclear cases to local Compliance or Head Office Financial Security for guidance and validation.
- Provide training and knowledge sharing on KYC processes to junior team members and other departments.
- Maintain and update client static data and account details in the KYC database.
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of statistics for Management Information System (MIS) reporting and other ad-hoc reports; perform monthly reconciliations of KYC status against open client accounts.
- Participate in departmental projects and execute User Acceptance Testing activities assigned by management.
- Perform ad-hoc client screenings and additional tasks as delegated by management.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, or related field.
- Prior experience in KYC and Customer Due Diligence (CDD), preferably within Corporate Investment Banking.
- In-depth knowledge of AML/Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT) regulations and KYC documentation procedures.
- Familiarity with KYC regulatory frameworks specific to Asia, including HKMA, MAS, CBRC, PBOC, and FSC.
- Strong verbal communication in English and Mandarin, with proficient reading skills in English as well as Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and independent work with prioritization capability.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with high motivation and ability to work autonomously.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, maintaining urgency and deadline focus.
- Team-oriented approach.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel is advantageous.
