Role Overview

This leadership position is for a seasoned Mechanical Engineering professional who will serve as the discipline head for Utilities and Material Handling at the corporate level. The role involves steering engineering, design, coordination, and governance for critical mechanical systems across semiconductor, power, and metal EPC projects. The aim is to ensure that every system meets performance, safety, regulatory, and sustainability expectations.

Key Engineering Systems

The position covers the design and coordination of HVAC, cleanroom systems, water treatment systems, CDA, process vacuum, process exhaust, firefighting systems, fuel supply systems including HSD tanks, pumps and controls, heat exchangers, pumps, material handling systems, tanks, and elevators.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and design of mechanical systems while ensuring alignment with project specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Create package-level SOPs, design guidelines, and standard practices to improve consistency in deliverables.
  • Improve design quality through structured reviews, value engineering, and constructability checks.
  • Oversee 3D model assessments, safety audits, quality reviews, and site mock-up checks with clients and consultants.
  • Function as the Head Office discipline lead for Utilities and Material Handling, reporting to the Head of Heavy Industrial Engineering.
  • Plan engineering execution strategies for both projects and proposals.
  • Promote standardisation, best practices, and ongoing capability building within the discipline.
  • Handle manpower planning with the Engineering Management Team and create deployment plans.
  • Identify hiring needs and support team expansion as required.
  • Coach and develop engineers, assistant engineers, and trainees to strengthen the technical talent pipeline.
  • Guide and supervise engineers, designers, and modelers to ensure accurate and high-quality output.
  • Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders such as clients, consultants, and third-party vendors.
  • Work across functions with Plant Engineering, Process, Civil & Structural, Electrical, Piping, ELV, I&C, Plumbing & Sanitary, Planning, Procurement, and Project teams.
  • Assist in consultant and contractor management to support timely and cost-efficient project delivery.
  • Assess project requirements, identify major risks, and drive mitigation actions through regular reviews.
  • Track engineering performance and initiate corrective measures to protect timelines, quality, and profitability.
  • Offer technical support during construction, commissioning, and handover activities.
  • Build and roll out discipline best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Standardise documentation, engineering workflows, and design tools.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, quality, statutory, and sustainability requirements.

Experience and Education

The role requires a BE, B.Tech, or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates should have 25+ years of experience, preferably in semiconductor, power generation, or metal industrial projects. Strong people management capability is essential for leading large teams and complex projects.
