Role summary
The Assistant Programme Manager will help create enjoyable and well-organised morning and afternoon sessions at the Pillans Point site in Otūmoetai. This position involves a minimum of 10 hours each week, scheduled Monday to Friday, and may include extra hours during school holiday programmes.
Working hours
- Before-school shifts generally run from 7:00am to 8:30am.
- After-school shifts usually run from 2:30pm to 6:00pm.
- Being available from 2:30pm onward is essential, although end times can vary.
- Additional hours may be available during school holidays, with potential shifts between 7:00am and 6:00pm.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will support the Programme Manager with the day-to-day delivery of the programme and help maintain a safe, structured environment for children.
- Assist with the smooth running of the programme and help keep daily operations organised.
- Act as second-in-charge when required, including leading sessions if the Programme Manager is away.
- Supervise large groups of children and ensure activities remain safe, welcoming, and engaging.
- Help plan and deliver structured sessions such as arts and crafts, sports, games, and offsite outings.
- Support the team in managing challenging behaviour using calm, positive approaches.
- Help coach and direct Programme Assistants so activities and expectations stay on track.
- Communicate professionally and positively with parents, caregivers, and school staff.
- Assist with setting up activities, packing down sessions, and preparing resources.

Requirements
- You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand, such as citizenship or a valid visa.
- Reliable transport is needed to reach the Pillans Point programme site.
- Prior experience working with groups of children is required, such as in OSCAR, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, or similar settings.
- You should be comfortable taking initiative and stepping into a leadership role when needed.
- Experience or exposure to managing behaviour in group settings is important.
- You need to work well in a team and also be able to lead others when necessary.
- Strong communication skills are required for dealing with children, adults, parents, and school staff.
- You must be over 20 years old in line with the Social Security (Childcare Assistance) Regulations 2004.
