Job description
Role Overview
American University of Sharjah is inviting applications for a faculty appointment in Acting at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, with a planned start in Fall 2026. The role sits within a small but expanding Performing Arts Program and is suited to someone who enjoys teaching, production leadership, and curriculum development in a liberal arts setting.
What You Will Do
- Lead all theatre productions as director, with one production each semester.
- Teach undergraduate acting courses across all levels.
- Deliver other theatre subjects as needed, including Theatre Appreciation.
- Contribute to the creation and revision of curriculum when necessary.
- Participate actively in creative work and program recruitment efforts.
- Serve on committees and take on other program-related responsibilities as assigned.
Candidate Profile
The university is looking for an educator who is committed to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment and who works well in a diverse academic community. The ideal candidate will bring leadership ability, people-management skills, strong written and spoken communication, and a practical approach to solving problems creatively.
Qualifications and Experience
A terminal degree in theatre is required, either an MFA or a PhD. At least three years of university-level teaching experience is preferred. Experience teaching playwriting is considered an advantage, and preference may be given to applicants who have earned at least one degree from a North American university.
