Job description

Overview

The Assistant Head of Projects, Development and Execution plays a key role in shaping, planning, and delivering projects across the business. The position ensures that work is completed on schedule, stays within the approved budget, meets quality and compliance standards, and supports wider organizational goals as well as stakeholder needs.

In this role, you will collaborate with clients, internal functions, and external partners to strengthen project governance, improve delivery efficiency, and support ongoing enhancements in how projects are executed.

Important: Experience handling hospitality projects is mandatory for this opportunity.

Project Strategy and Planning

  • Support the creation of project plans and strategies that match business priorities and growth objectives.
  • Contribute to feasibility studies, business case development, and risk reviews.
  • Help build project roadmaps and actionable delivery plans.
  • Set up governance structures, operating processes, and control mechanisms for projects.

Project Development

  • Take the lead or provide support in shaping project concepts and design development.
  • Work with internal teams to clarify and refine project requirements.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors, and external vendors during design and planning stages.
  • Make sure all work follows regulatory, safety, and quality expectations.

Project Execution and Delivery

  • Manage projects from initiation through final completion.
  • Track schedules, budgets, and key delivery indicators throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Spot risks, issues, and potential delays early and take corrective action.
  • Ensure procurement, resourcing, and cross-team coordination happen in a timely way.
  • Promote strong execution standards and adherence to proven project practices.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a central point of contact for cross-functional teams, clients, and the wider project group.
  • Share regular updates, reports, and performance insights with stakeholders.
  • Handle expectations carefully and keep communication clear at every stage of delivery.
  • Support discussions and negotiations with vendors, contractors, and partners.

Financial and Commercial Management

  • Monitor budgets, cost performance, and overall financial progress for projects.
  • Review budget differences and put corrective actions in place when needed.
  • Support tendering, contract administration, and commercial review activities.
  • Look for opportunities to improve value and optimize project costs.

Team Leadership and Capability Building

  • Guide and mentor project managers and wider project teams.
  • Help build a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
  • Encourage continuous improvement and active knowledge sharing.
  • Support the adoption of innovation and digital tools in project delivery.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates should hold a degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, Business, or a closely related discipline. The role typically requires 8 to 15 years of relevant project management experience, depending on seniority.

Applicants should have a strong background in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects, along with solid contractor management and site coordination experience. Previous leadership or people-management exposure is preferred.

Strong organization, project planning, stakeholder communication, financial understanding, commercial awareness, risk handling, and problem-solving abilities are essential. The position also calls for the ability to lead cross-functional teams and juggle several projects at once.

Travel to Malaysia must be possible when required. Familiarity with project management software such as MS Project and Primavera is also expected.
