Job description

Role Overview

Our laboratory is committed to inclusive hiring and welcomes applicants from various backgrounds interested in the Assistant Genetic Technologist position. BGL, as part of the South West Genomic Laboratory Hub, provides centralized genomic testing for cancer and rare diseases across the South West region. We boast a large, modern, and supportive lab environment eager to benefit from the skills new team members bring.

Work Details

The Assistant Genetic Technologist will join our Preparation Teams responsible for the initial handling of biological samples. Duties include unpacking and organizing samples, inputting patient information into laboratory computer systems, and processing samples through manual or automated methods. Precision, a calm demeanor, and proficient keyboarding are essential for success.

Laboratory operations run daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, including bank holidays and weekends. We offer flexible schedules totaling up to 37.5 hours weekly to accommodate various staff needs.

Requirements and Training

Applicants should possess good general education credentials, such as A Levels or equivalents, preferably with science subjects, alongside competent keyboard and data entry abilities. A careful and methodical approach to tasks is vital. Comprehensive training and support will be provided. There is potential for undertaking a Healthcare Science apprenticeship as part of this role.
