Assistant General Counsel - Privacy and Contract Law (Dublin/London)

About the Role

Kroll Bond Rating Agency Europe Limited and Kroll Bond Rating Agency UK Limited, collectively KBRA, are looking for a full-time Assistant General Counsel to join their Legal Department. This position will be based either in Dublin, Ireland, or London, England, and focuses primarily on privacy, data protection, and contract-related legal matters.

Team Overview

The Legal Department at KBRA manages all legal concerns except for rating-specific issues. The team collaborates closely with diverse internal departments including analysts, compliance, finance, technology, and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on international privacy and cybersecurity legislation such as GDPR (both EU and UK), ePrivacy Directive, CCPA, and CPRA.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining company-wide privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity frameworks.
• Lead or support privacy impact assessments, legitimate interest evaluations, vendor due diligence, and cross-border data transfer compliance.
• Maintain thorough records of processing activities and help coordinate incident and breach responses in collaboration with Technology, Information Security, Legal, and Compliance teams.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts including data processing agreements, vendor contracts, client engagement letters, subscription contracts, and technology agreements with an emphasis on privacy-related provisions.
• Monitor and keep abreast of evolving privacy regulations, AI implications, and enforcement across relevant jurisdictions including Ireland, UK, and EU.
• Update and manage privacy notices and corporate policies.
• Engage with external regulators, legal counsel, and auditors as required.
• Design and deliver training programs to raise internal awareness on privacy and data protection matters.
• Act as a consultancy resource for internal teams regarding privacy-related and broader legal questions.
• Support corporate governance by preparing materials related to privacy for board or committee review.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Compliance, Technology, Marketing, and Business Development functions, and liaise with external counsel and regulators.

Candidate Qualifications

• Qualified legal professional with a law degree and admission to practice as a solicitor in either Ireland or England & Wales, holding or eligible for a practising certificate. Exceptionally experienced privacy professionals with significant advisory experience may also be considered.
• Between 4 and 8 years of post-qualification experience, with direct hands-on involvement in privacy and data protection law.
• Strong expertise in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts with emphasis on privacy-sensitive clauses such as DPAs, vendor and client agreements.
• In-depth knowledge of GDPR (EU and UK), data transfer mechanisms like Standard Contractual Clauses and Binding Corporate Rules, ePrivacy regulations, third-party risk management, and basic cybersecurity principles.
• Excellent communication skills, able to clearly present complex legal and technical privacy topics to non-legal audiences.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, with strong research, analytic, and project management capabilities, managing multiple simultaneous projects under tight timelines.
• Experience in regulated sectors such as financial services, technology, or data analytics is advantageous.
• Professional certifications from IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM or equivalent) are considered a plus.
