Assistant Director of NIL Operations

Job summary

The University of Connecticut is hiring an Assistant Director of NIL Operations to partner with the Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Initiatives on all Name, Image, and Likeness efforts. The role focuses on helping student-athletes understand and grow their personal brands, creating educational content and materials, and supporting the planning and execution of NIL opportunities across the athletic department.

Key duties

• Oversee the day-to-day running and continued growth of the department’s NIL strategy, programming, and student-athlete support efforts.
• Guide student-athletes on personal branding, social media use, and NIL learning opportunities.
• Develop and sustain relationships with brands and local companies to open up NIL opportunities.
• Partner with Learfield, corporate sponsors, licensing teams, and other stakeholders on NIL initiatives.
• Help with recruiting by sharing NIL resources and available opportunities with prospective student-athletes.
• Support the compliance team in handling NIL disclosures and monitoring partnership activity.
• Serve as the central contact for NIL-related events and operational coordination.
• Work directly with student-athletes and their agents on third-party external agreements.
• Collaborate with athletic leadership to deliver NIL deals that have already been secured or committed.
• Join and lead production calls with outside vendors using university facilities or student-athletes for NIL deals.
• Track and manage student-athlete obligations tied to NIL deliverables.

Minimum qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in sport management or a closely related discipline.
• At least four years of prior experience in an intercollegiate athletic department within the past five years.
• Working knowledge of Name, Image, and Likeness and how it has developed in college athletics, including relevant NIL policy frameworks.
• Strong familiarity with NCAA regulations.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage several projects and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.

Preferred qualifications

• A master’s degree.
• Two to four years of experience in collegiate athletics, sports marketing, NIL, brand partnerships, or athlete development.
• Previous Division I athletics experience.
• Experience working with student-athlete representatives, or clear knowledge of that area.
• Alignment with NIL principles and philosophies consistent with the Division of Athletics and its NIL unit.

Appointment terms

This is a full-time position with an end date, though it may be renewed depending on performance and funding. The job requires flexible and irregular working hours. Relocation assistance is not offered. UConn provides a competitive salary, strong benefits, and employee and dependent tuition waivers. The role is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA).
