Career and Professional Development Overview

The Career & Professional Development (CPD) office empowers students and alumni in career exploration, preparation, and pursuit of meaningful opportunities through tailored guidance, experiential learning, and employer engagement. CPD serves most undergraduate and graduate programs as well as alumni, with the exception of certain colleges.

Position Summary

In alignment with the university's strategic emphasis on the future of work and the innovative 4-Dimensional student experience, the Experiential Learning team within CPD develops programs and services to support students in achieving career-related experiential learning goals and equips faculty and staff to assist them. The Assistant Director of Experiential Learning is instrumental in designing, executing, and supporting these initiatives based on student needs and trends.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and deliver professional development programs such as the Student Employees Achieve badge, job fairs, National Student Employment Week, and awards recognizing student employment achievements.
  • Enhance and oversee systems managing student internships and employment opportunities, including online postings and e-learning platforms.
  • Lead strategic communications and outreach efforts via newsletters, social media, and collaborations with CPD.
  • Serve as a representative on various university committees and events including the PCO User Group and orientation sessions.
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing data related to student success metrics such as retention, graduation, and employment outcomes tied to experiential learning.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience on a year-to-year basis.
  • Two to four years of work experience in experiential learning, career development, leadership, or related fields.
  • Background working with college students or youth development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing events and programs in complex environments such as higher education.
  • Proficiency in data collection and utilization to drive program decisions.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of experiential learning and career/leadership development concepts.
  • Expertise in event planning and delivering presentations across various audiences and formats, including virtual.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Customer-oriented approach with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Marketing and communications aptitude targeted toward student engagement.
  • Competence in collecting and analyzing data to inform programming.

Work Environment and Schedule

  • Standard office setting with moderate noise levels and occasional interruptions.
  • Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with eligibility for partial remote work based on divisional needs and management decisions.
  • Physical demands include extended computer use and some mobility around the office/campus.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a salary of $69,938 annually, with the final offer depending on qualifications, department budget, and market factors. Benefits include medical, dental, retirement plans, paid time off, tuition benefits, and transit support through an ECO pass.
