Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct analyses of submissions, data, and facts regarding competition issues arising from mergers, formulating evidence-based conclusions and recommendations for ACCC Commissioners and senior management.
• Manage stakeholder consultations, engaging with market participants and Australian government agencies.
• Participate in strategic planning and manage risk effectively.
• Provide leadership and development guidance to professional staff, supporting team growth and contributing to branch and division leadership.
• Collaborate closely with ACCC internal teams including legal and economic experts.
• Maintain communication with Australian Government bodies and international competition and consumer agencies concerning mergers activities.
• Take a leading role in Tribunal review processes and litigated merger cases, including preparing legal instructions and coordinating with consultants.

Candidate Profile

The role requires meeting the Australian Public Service Integrated Leadership Profile for this classification.

Experience

• At least four years of relevant experience following graduation from a related undergraduate program.
• Examples of relevant experience include working within economic, legal, data analysis, government, regulatory, or academic settings related to competition or consumer protection.

Technical Knowledge

• Understanding of or ability to quickly learn the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, especially Part IVA, and the ACCC’s roles and functions.
• Qualifications in economics, law, data science, or comparable disciplines.

Core Skills

• Strong research, investigation, and analytical capabilities regarding competition matters and legislative interpretation.
• Effective collaboration and engagement skills.
• Capability to organize and prioritize complex and multiple ongoing projects.
• Experience in supervising and mentoring junior team members.

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous professional supervision or management experience.

Additional Information

Positions are expected to commence soon, with some commencing up to the second quarter of 2027. Similar roles may be available in the Competition Exemptions Branch as well as Mergers branches.

Salary: $127,908 to $141,555 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.
