The Assistant Designer, Home role is an entry point into the Design team, where you will learn the brand, design culture, and core product aesthetics while contributing to a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Build knowledge of how to research category trends, market direction, and customer preferences.
- Support the design team in translating private brand direction into products through materials, trims, silhouettes, colors, and prints.
- Help shape a strategic, customer-first product vision and contribute to broader merchandise and product planning goals.
- Prepare presentation materials and coordinate setup for design review meetings.
- Assist with in-season design updates for the department and vendors.
- Take part in cross-functional meetings and capture key action items for the manager.
- Work with the people leader to meet deadlines and understand priorities and workload expectations.
- Develop flat mechanical sketches for design development packages.
- Assist with the creation and distribution of tech packs.
- Support approval of strike-offs, samples, and other development assets.
- Use Adobe and CLO tools to support style, color, and pattern development.
- Review development samples and share feedback.
- Maintain regular communication and build working relationships with cross-functional partners throughout the development process.
- Learn to identify assortment opportunities and contribute to assortment development.
- Collaborate effectively, deliver results, and show interest in building a long-term career with Macy’s.
- Help create a workplace culture rooted in respect, inclusion, and authentic connection with colleagues, customers, and communities.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to research trends, categories, and customer preferences.
- Comfort preparing presentation materials and supporting meeting setup.
- Strong collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork and deadline management.
- Ability to create flat sketches and participate in technical design package work.
- Familiarity with Adobe and CLO software for product development tasks.
- Good relationship-building and communication skills across teams and partners.
- Willingness to learn quickly, adapt, and contribute to assortment planning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe design tools.
- Working knowledge of PLM is an advantage.
- Strong sense of color and print, including the ability to distinguish shades accurately.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience.
- Retail or design internship experience is preferred.
- Ability to perform essential job functions using office and computer systems, access written and electronic information, and move around the work environment as needed.
- Flexibility to work a schedule based on department and company needs.
