About the Company
Majcherczyk Digital is an independent production company working on original film and digital storytelling projects across film and television. The team is building its creative lineup for the feature film #NOTHER and is looking for a detail-focused Assistant Composer to support the Lead Composer through the scoring process.
Role Overview
This is a project-based freelance/independent contractor position, carried out remotely, with a planned start in February 2027. Compensation will be discussed based on experience, availability, and the scope of the project. The position is well suited to emerging composers, music production graduates, orchestrators, and recent music graduates who want practical feature-film experience.
The Assistant Composer will collaborate closely with the Lead Composer to help shape the film’s musical direction. The work combines creative input, technical execution, and organized project support, including score preparation, MIDI programming, music editing, cue management, and coordination across the music workflow.
Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Composer in developing and producing the film’s score.
- Build, polish, and revise MIDI mockups, demos, and reference tracks.
- Move and adapt notation-based scores from tools such as Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale into Logic Pro, Cubase, or comparable DAWs.
- Maintain consistency in orchestration, dynamics, articulations, and performance markings when moving between notation and production tools.
- Assist with orchestration, arrangement, and instrumentation tasks as needed.
- Keep music sessions, project files, stems, and backups well organized.
- Prepare materials and assets for recording sessions when required.
- Help with cue tracking, version control, and score updates.
- Contribute to music editing and cue-to-picture synchronization.
- Research musical styles, references, and creative influences that support the project.
- Export stems, mixes, and other delivery materials for review and post-production handoff.
- Maintain virtual instrument libraries, templates, and efficient production workflows.
- Join remote meetings with the composer and production team when needed.
- Assist with general administration and coordination tasks for the music department.
- Offer creative ideas while working under the direction of the Lead Composer.
Requirements
- Knowledge of film scoring, orchestration, harmony, and composition methods.
- Hands-on experience with DAWs such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, or similar software.
- Comfort using notation software such as Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale.
- Experience working with virtual instruments and orchestral sample libraries.
- Strong accuracy and a highly organized approach to work.
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver on deadlines.
- Clear communication and strong teamwork skills.
- Interest in film music and cinematic storytelling.
- Applications are welcome from early-career composers, music production graduates, assistant composers, orchestrators, and people aiming for their first feature-film credit.
- Prior professional experience is helpful but not mandatory; reliability, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn are especially valued.
