Job description
About the Role
Methodist Welfare Services is seeking an Assistant - Community Care to support elderly-focused centre operations, community engagement, volunteer coordination, and outreach efforts in Singapore. The role helps strengthen seniors’ self-help abilities through activities, wellness programmes, and befriending support.
Programme Coordination
You will provide logistical and on-ground support for activities and wellness programmes designed to help older adults build confidence, independence, and social connection. This may include recreational, social, and cognitive programmes, sometimes delivered together with external partners.
Community Engagement and Outreach
The position involves helping organise and take part in community events, outings, and outreach initiatives. A key part of the job is engaging seniors in the community, including door-knocking activities to connect with community-dwelling seniors.
Administrative Duties
You will help keep daily attendance records for seniors participating in centre activities and programmes, especially when records are needed for submission. Other administrative support includes handling money collection, issuing receipts, managing petty cash, and arranging requisitions for centre supplies.
Additional operational support includes assisting the centre cleaner to maintain a clean environment and ensuring routine maintenance tasks are completed regularly, such as air-conditioning servicing and LEW reviews.
Volunteer Engagement
The role also supports volunteer involvement by encouraging seniors to take part in activities, share ideas, and help shape programmes. You will assist the Volunteer Management Executive in recruiting and coordinating volunteers to run activities and programmes.
Outreach and Befriending Services
You will carry out wellness assessments for seniors, assign befrienders to socially isolated older adults, and refer cases onward to the case management executive when service linkage or care coordination is needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Applicants should have a relevant diploma in social services. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important, along with the ability to work well as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is also required.
