Role overview

Flagler College Athletics is hiring an inventive, highly organized communications leader to guide the department’s athletics communications efforts and strengthen the profile of Flagler Athletics. The position covers sports information, broadcasting, media relations, website management, social media, game-day communications, statistical reporting, and department storytelling.

This is a full-time, 12-month role within athletics communications and public relations. The selected person will oversee the department’s communication channels, including the athletics website, social platforms, news releases, and printed materials, while supporting planning, promotional activity, and media outreach.

The role reports to the Deputy Athletics Director and works closely with the department on communications strategy, media coordination, game-day coverage, records management, and publicity for Flagler Athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct the athletics communications, media, and broadcasting functions.
  • Train and supervise staff supporting media, communications, and broadcasting operations.
  • Build and maintain the department’s communications plan and publication schedule.
  • Keep statistical records, historical files, and photo archives accurate and current.
  • Support the development of the communications budget and oversee it as needed.
  • Contribute to long-range and short-range planning as part of the department leadership group.
  • Draft and update media communication policies and operating procedures.
  • Design and carry out a communication strategy and crisis response plan.
  • Prepare and distribute news stories, feature pieces, and pre- and post-game releases to media outlets.
  • Ensure ongoing adherence to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Help expand brand visibility by promoting positive department stories through local and national media.
  • Act as the main media liaison and arrange coach and student-athlete media availability.
  • Manage all athletics website content and keep information complete and updated.
  • Promote ticket sales, events, campaigns, and fundraising efforts across media channels.
  • Nominate student-athletes for academic, athletic, scholarship, and award recognition.
  • Use Adobe Creative Cloud to refresh graphics and documents, and to edit live video and interviews.
  • Oversee game-day media operations, including rosters, game notes, and stat books.
  • Leverage current social media trends to market athletic teams and events.
  • Take ownership of publications, press events, media briefings, and game-day programs.
  • Support a strong and consistent level of visibility for the institution and the community.
  • Submit statistical reports and results to the conference office and NCAA.
  • Produce the department newsletter, The Saints Club.
  • Coordinate photography for all sports teams and special events.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with external media to broaden coverage locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Develop engaging feature story ideas for internal and external distribution.
  • Prepare and submit nominations for conference and national awards.
  • Supervise and guide the Communications Coordinator.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations.

Requirements

  • A creative, well-organized professional with strong media and communications judgment.
  • Ability to manage athletics communications, broadcasting, and public relations activities effectively.
  • Experience handling website updates, social media content, publications, and media relations.
  • Comfort working with statistical reporting, archival records, and game-day information.
  • Ability to develop communication policies, crisis plans, and promotional strategies.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA compliance expectations.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud for graphics, documents, and video editing.
  • Capability to coordinate media appearances, press events, and photography workflows.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills for news and feature content.
  • Preferred education: master’s degree.
