About KPMG

KPMG is a leading global professional services firm with a strong reputation for trust and quality. Its purpose is to help build prosperity for all New Zealanders, and that purpose shapes both client delivery and internal operations. The firm works in line with its shared values of Integrity, Courage, Excellence, Together, and for Better.

Role Overview

KPMG is seeking a meticulous and proactive Assistant Accountant to join its finance team in Auckland. This position is important to the organisation’s financial performance, with a focus on producing accurate and timely reporting that supports sound business decisions.

You will work alongside the wider finance function to maintain reliable financial information and help keep day-to-day finance processes running smoothly. The role suits someone who enjoys working with figures, takes pride in accuracy, and wants to grow in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

What You Will Do

  • Assist with the preparation and finalisation of monthly and annual financial reports to a high standard.
  • Carry out the supporting work for financial and management accounting accurately and within deadlines, including monthly journal entries and general ledger review.
  • Support cashflow forecasting by collecting and updating relevant financial information with the Financial Accountant.
  • Help meet tax obligations by preparing and submitting GST and FBT returns on time and with care.
  • Provide financial and administrative support for the budgeting process, particularly from a reporting and management accounting perspective.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations according to agreed standards and raise any variances to protect the integrity of the data.

What We Are Looking For

  • 2 to 3 years of experience with a strong grasp of financial and management accounting, including journals, general ledger work, and reconciliations.
  • Capability to assist with monthly and yearly financial reporting.
  • Understanding of tax compliance requirements, especially GST and FBT returns.
  • Exposure to cashflow forecasting and handling financial information.
  • Strong balance sheet reconciliation skills and a focus on data accuracy.
  • Very good attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret financial information to support decisions.
  • Good time management and the ability to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Comfort working with stakeholders and communicating clearly.
  • A mindset that looks for ways to improve processes and deliver better outcomes.
