Job description

Job Overview

We are inviting applications for a permanent Assistant Accountant position within the proactive and high-performing Financial Services team at Dacorum Borough Council. Our team is committed to forward-thinking financial management, driving efficiencies, and delivering value for money. The role is based at our Hemel Hempstead office, conveniently located near shops, cafes, gyms, eateries, and a picturesque historic town center with parks and a river accessible within a short walk.

Role and Responsibilities

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to establish and develop a career in accounting. Candidates with some experience in financial monitoring and reporting are encouraged to apply. The Council actively supports employees seeking professional qualifications and offers opportunities for learning and growth. The role involves involvement in various aspects of the monthly and annual financial cycles as well as participation in high-level projects.

The role demands excellent analytical and organizational capabilities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Strong communication skills are necessary due to interaction with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. The ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage competing priorities is essential.

Additional Information

Dacorum Borough Council provides a comprehensive benefits package, including a generous holiday allowance, a valuable pension plan with a 17.1% employer contribution, nearby parking, an onsite café, hybrid working options, and access to training and development programs. Salary will correspond to the applicant's qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be subject to a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

The council is undergoing significant restructuring as part of the Local Government Reorganisation and devolution process which will replace district and borough councils in Hertfordshire with fewer unitary councils. Changes will take effect from 1 April 2028, and employees joining before that date will transfer to the new authority with possible changes in reporting structures and work arrangements.

This presents a unique chance to influence the future of local services and contribute to creating an innovative and integrated working environment. The council is dedicated to supporting its staff throughout this transition while maintaining high-quality services to residents.
