Role overview
Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) is looking for an Asset Care Technician to help run, maintain, repair, and improve plant equipment and related systems. The role supports better reliability, availability, product quality, and overall line performance within the packaging environment, which covers bottling of beer and RTD products such as lagers and stouts. The site uses SAP as its CMMS and operates with a strong focus on safe, hygienic, and high-quality production.
What the job involves
In this position, you will work on mechanical and electrical production equipment, support the shift production plan, respond to breakdowns, and work closely with production colleagues and other technicians. You may also need to coordinate with OEMs and be available for emergency call-outs. The role can involve long working hours from time to time.
Core accountabilities
You will be expected to contribute to production efficiency, maintenance execution, and workplace safety while supporting continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Production and performance support
- Help put the shift production plan into action.
- Support better use of production materials and utilities.
- Track, record, review, and analyze performance data from the line.
- Spot negative trends early and take corrective steps.
- Assist the shift team in improving product quality.
- Support structured problem-solving activities on shift.
Maintenance duties
- Carry out planned maintenance on running and stopped equipment.
- Perform breakdown repairs when equipment fails.
- Handle SAP CMMS activities, including task notifications, ZPMS, ZPMR, and ZPMM.
- Prepare equipment and tools before maintenance work begins.
- Use structured root-cause methods such as 5 Why, DMAIC, and RCPS.
- Take part in continuous improvement efforts.
- Follow the established maintenance system and related procedures.
- Find plant assets, spare parts, equipment, and supporting documents when needed.
- Operate assigned machines at the required standard rate.
- Show correct machine start-up and shut-down procedures.
- Prepare equipment properly for start-up and shut-down.
- Support spare parts validation, restocking, and stock control.
- Assist with autonomous maintenance supervision and coach technical operators.
- Help develop OPLs and SOPs.
- Take part in RCM and FMECA activities.
- Help manage cost and downtime by improving MTTR and MTBF.
- Carry out machine inspections using TEBWA.
Health, safety, and environment
- Follow PPE rules and site safety procedures.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and workplace cleanliness.
- Keep the work area, process area, and personnel hygiene standards at the required level.
- Apply and respect 5S standards in the workplace.
- Use lockout/tagout procedures correctly.
- Raise and close SIRCS items as required.
Working environment and stakeholder interaction
The role works closely with the production team, fellow technicians, packaging engineering and management teams, and technical operators. Internal stakeholders include the Packaging Engineer, Asset Care Manager, Packaging Manager, Asset Care Technicians, Asset Care Planner, and Technical Operators.

Qualification and experience
A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is required. The role also calls for computer literacy, including a solid working knowledge of SAP. Candidates should have at least 1 year of shift-based experience in a production team within an FMCG environment. A basic understanding of machine functions, planned maintenance, lubrication, process control, operational excellence methods, and risk standards covering quality, health and safety, and environment is also needed.
Working style and other notes
This position may require long working hours at times. The selected person should be comfortable being on call for emergency breakdowns and working in a complex production setting with highly sophisticated mechanical and electrical equipment.
