Role Summary

The Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist partners with the Associate Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment to build, deliver, and assess support for instructional coaching, professional learning, and assessment programming for the Office of Academic Innovation. The role also creates strong pedagogical and assessment resources for OAI’s online hub, OAI+.

Using research-based and evidence-informed practices, this position collaborates with faculty, departments, and programs across campus to improve teaching quality, strengthen learning outcomes, and support equitable, inclusive student success. The job requires on-site presence in the OAI office and regular in-person collaboration with supervisors, staff, team members, and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and review assessment support services for the Office of Academic Innovation.
  • Develop and manage professional development programming for educators and academic partners.
  • Provide instructional coaching and help improve teaching practices across campus.
  • Create and maintain assessment and pedagogy content for the OAI+ resource hub.
  • Work with departments and programs to support measurable improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Use evidence-based approaches to advance inclusive, equitable, and student-centered education.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Associate Director, OAI staff, faculty, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Participate in in-person work and office-based collaboration as part of the role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree plus 4 years of experience in higher education program assessment, faculty development, or a closely related area.
  • Proven background in designing, carrying out, and interpreting assessment work.
  • Teaching experience in K-12 or higher education settings.
  • Working knowledge of effective, evidence-based teaching and learning strategies.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in education, higher education administration, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in program assessment, faculty development, or instructional design.
  • Experience leading broad higher-education professional development initiatives.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience with assessment methods and data analysis.
  • Background in classroom observation tools and instructional coaching.
  • Understanding of inclusive pedagogy, equity-minded practice, and culturally sustaining teaching.
  • Clear commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in post-secondary environments.
  • Experience working with diverse faculty groups.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across varied organizational settings.

Work Schedule

Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Compensation and Benefits

New hires typically begin near the Q1 level within the salary band, with starting pay determined by relevant experience, skills, knowledge, market comparison, internal equity, and departmental budget. The annual starting salary for this position is $66,696 to $73,224, though a higher offer may be approved depending on the circumstances.

The benefits package includes 95% employer-paid healthcare premiums, a strong retirement and vacation package, and reduced tuition for employees, spouses, or dependents at Oregon University System schools.
