About the Role

Join Downer as an Asphalt Plant Operator based in Dunedin, where you will play a vital part in producing high-quality asphalt essential for infrastructure across the South Island. This full-time role involves operating asphalt plants, maintaining product standards, and supporting other locations when needed. Expect to work nights, weekends occasionally, and travel to various sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee asphalt production plants to meet output targets.
  • Ensure asphalt quality by monitoring processes and adjusting specifications as necessary.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections and perform minor maintenance to prevent operational interruptions.
  • Adhere to strict health and safety guidelines while maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate efficiently with team members including drivers and operational staff to facilitate smooth workflow and delivery schedules.
  • Travel to other asphalt plant sites to support production, fill staffing gaps, provide training, or manage project demands.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Holder of a valid full Class 1 and Class 2 Driver Licence.
  • Preferred endorsements include Class 4 or 5, WTR, and Forklift.
  • Experience in operating plant machinery within civil, quarry, asphalt, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Flexible and willing to travel and work away from home as needed.
  • Strong mechanical skills coupled with a proactive approach to maintenance.
  • Competent with computer systems and quick to learn operational technologies.
  • Excellent communication capabilities and a supportive, team-oriented mindset.
  • Dedication to maintaining Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
