Role overview
Amrize is hiring motivated people for its Asphalt Paving Crew in Nanaimo, British Columbia. In this position, you will help build and maintain asphalt roads and surfaces while supporting high workmanship standards and a strong safety culture.
Key duties
- Work closely with the crew to complete paving jobs efficiently and on schedule.
- Carry out asphalt paving activities such as spreading and leveling material, compacting surfaces with rollers, excavating and grading work areas, and using skid steers for different tasks.
- Make sure asphalt surfaces are compacted and drained properly according to project requirements.
- Use and care for paving equipment in line with safety rules and manufacturer instructions.
- Stay in regular communication with supervisors and teammates to coordinate work and resolve issues during paving operations.
- Inspect equipment routinely and handle basic maintenance to keep machines performing well and reduce delays.
- Follow environmental rules and company procedures for waste handling and material use.
- Support health, safety, and environmental policies by consistently working in a way that promotes safe behavior and awareness.
Candidate profile
The employer is looking for people with a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification. Prior experience in asphalt paving or construction is helpful, but it is not mandatory. A valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record is required.
Additional requirements
- You must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- The role is suited to someone who can perform well in a fast-moving, high-output setting.
- Overtime may be required, including Saturdays.
- You should be comfortable working independently as well as with others.
- Strong attention to detail and an efficient work style are important.
- Good communication and teamwork skills are expected.
- You need to be willing to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and perform physically demanding, repetitive tasks.
- Selected candidates must follow all safety procedures and use Amrize-approved PPE, including respirators where required. Anyone required to wear a respirator must be clean shaven at the sealing area to pass qualitative and quantitative fit testing.
Compensation and benefits
- Hourly pay is CAD 37.00 to CAD 42.00.
