Position Overview
The Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), a nationally recognized leader in visual arts and design education, is inviting candidates to apply for the part-time Artist Model role. This position offers an hourly wage of $16.50 with varied working hours. KCAI's mission is to prepare talented students to become creative world changers through art and design, aiming to be a pioneering educational institution in the arts.
Role Responsibilities
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled class begins.
- Consult with the class instructor regarding the required poses.
- Communicate promptly with the instructor if poses cause discomfort, pain, or if the environment is unsuitable for nude modeling.
- Ensure substantial padding or cushions are used at all times during posing.
- Report any class sessions not properly supervised by faculty to the Model Supervisor for guidance.
Physical Posing Requirements
Modeling involves various pose types including gesture, portrait, standing, sitting, and reclining poses:
- Gesture Poses: Short action-oriented poses lasting 5 to 10 minutes, such as dancing or stretching, rotated to offer different perspectives.
- Portrait Poses: Typically seated, clothed poses requiring the head to stay steady and eyes open, with minimal movement of the torso, shoulders, and neck.
- Standing Poses: Require foot padding for comfort; sessions should not exceed 25 minutes without breaks, maintaining balanced posture without locking knees.
- Sitting Poses: May involve sitting on various supports, emphasizing avoiding limb numbness or circulation loss, and not contorting limbs excessively.
- Reclining Poses: Often involve torso or hip twists; adequate padding is essential with limited raised-arm duration and adherence to break schedules.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Experience working within a college or university setting is advantageous.
- Background in performing arts is beneficial.
- Prior experience as an artist model is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
