Job description
Role overview
As an Area Manager at Amazon, you will lead a sizable, varied team and help ensure your part of the operation keeps up with customer demand. This is a practical, on-the-ground leadership role where you will learn how a large global business runs and what it takes to keep operations flowing smoothly. You will guide your team’s approach to improving productivity while working with colleagues to resolve issues, so the work will stay varied from day to day.
Key responsibilities
- Create and reinforce a work environment that prioritizes safety and employee wellbeing.
- Review performance data, take corrective action where needed, and help maintain strong quality and productivity levels across all shifts so operational goals are achieved.
- Lead and support your team, including administrative coordination, while helping build a positive and collaborative team culture.
- Study team and process performance, then recommend improvements that strengthen efficiency and customer service.
- Work with fellow managers to align and standardize shift processes.
What the role looks like
This position is shift-based and located at one of the company’s operational sites. A major part of your day will be making sure safety standards are followed across your team and site, while also keeping an eye on process efficiency. Your routine will combine people management and daily operations with tasks such as handling escalations, supporting process-improvement initiatives, and contributing to wider contingency planning.
You will also collaborate with colleagues from other teams and with external partners to help the business meet customer demand and performance targets. This includes reviewing data and performance measures with business leaders, as well as discussing the benefits and limitations of technical changes with engineers.
Basic qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience managing employees and performance.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, or 2+ years of Amazon blue badge/FTE experience.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule or shift pattern, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
- Ability to push and pull wheeled dollies carrying products weighing up to 100 pounds during shifts.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
- At least 1 year of experience using performance metrics, process improvement methods, or lean techniques.
