Job description
About the studio
This Christchurch-based architectural practice is expanding and is recognised for a considered, design-led way of working and a strong commitment to producing carefully resolved, high-quality architecture. The team operates with a collaborative and encouraging culture, and places real value on clear concepts, thoughtful design decisions, and lasting client partnerships.
The studio delivers a broad mix of residential and light commercial work, such as townhouses, residential developments, premium bespoke homes, and smaller-scale commercial projects. Across all of these, the focus remains on refined design and well-executed outcomes.
The role
An opening is available for a design-focused Architect who is ready to take on a leadership position within the practice. This opportunity suits someone who enjoys developing projects from early concept stages through to construction, and who wants meaningful input into the final design direction.
You will work directly with clients, guide design thinking, and carry responsibility across the full project lifecycle. The position provides a strong degree of independence, while still placing you within a skilled and driven team.
In addition, the role includes mentoring junior designers and helping sustain a positive studio environment centred on good design.
Project scope
The studio’s work spans residential and light commercial commissions, including:
- Townhouses
- Residential developments
- High-end custom homes
- Smaller commercial projects
What the role involves
This position is intended for someone who can influence design outcomes, take projects forward confidently, and contribute to the studio’s overall design direction.
Salary and benefits
The package includes a salary of $90,000 to $115,000, depending on experience, along with professional fees being covered. The role also offers substantial autonomy, ownership of design work, exposure to a varied project pipeline, and a clear opportunity for progression within a design-led environment. The studio culture is described as supportive, creative, rigorous, and focused on strong quality outcomes.
