Position Details
This opening is for a Machine Learning Engineer Expert on a contract basis, offering remote work and compensation of $90 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Build complete machine learning systems for complex prediction and modeling tasks.
- Study datasets to choose suitable modeling methods, validation plans, and evaluation measures.
- Carry out exploratory analysis, feature creation, and data cleaning/preparation.
- Train, refine, and assess ML models across tabular, text, image, and time-series data.
- Inspect and confirm the technical soundness of machine learning work products and outputs.
- Find ways to raise model quality through structured testing and repeated improvement.
Qualifications
Required:
- A master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a top-tier university.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in machine learning, applied AI, data science, or a similar area.
- Strong command of Python and current ML libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
- Proven ability to deliver end-to-end ML solutions, including data preparation, model building, validation, and evaluation.
- Solid knowledge of evaluation metrics, validation methods, and experimental design.
- Experience in one or more of these areas: tabular ML, NLP, computer vision, recommendation systems, ranking systems, or time-series forecasting.
- Comfort working independently on open-ended ML problems and producing high-quality technical work.
Preferred:
- PhD from a highly regarded research university.
- Background at leading technology firms, AI labs, research institutions, or fast-growing startups.
- Experience in competitive machine learning or data science contests.
- History of improving models against metric-based performance targets.
- Exposure to advanced methods such as ensembling, hyperparameter tuning, transfer learning, foundation model fine-tuning, or reinforcement learning.
- Publications, patents, or notable open-source contributions in machine learning or AI.
- Experience reviewing, mentoring, or assessing the work of other ML practitioners.
