APAC Media Relations Spokesperson

About the Role

The APAC Media Relations Spokesperson serves a dual function as both a media spokesperson and regional coordinator. In this role, you will clearly understand Shell's strategic direction and effectively convey this across multiple media platforms, including print, broadcast, online, and social channels, while addressing and reducing the impact of misleading information.

You will collaborate closely with country-level media relations leads throughout APAC to ensure unified communication and proactive dissemination of Shell’s messaging.

Reporting Structure and Coordination

Reporting to the Head of Media Relations for APAC, you support country heads in media relations and act as an intermediary to the Group External Communications and Campaigns team, ensuring consistent messaging and managing relationships with leading international and local media outlets.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and nurture relationships with top-tier journalists from international news agencies and prominent trade publications in Singapore to provide authoritative insights into Shell’s strategies and key initiatives.
• Engage with international media on APAC-wide projects, incidents, evolving issues, and crises beyond individual country scopes.
• Assist media relations efforts specific to Australia, including covering absences and supporting major releases, initiatives, and concerns.
• Coordinate senior leader visits across the region by ensuring consistent briefing materials aligned with group narratives and optimizing media briefings, events, and site visit impact through cooperation with country Corporate Relations teams.
• Proactively represent Shell’s policies and actions in media interactions, exercising discretion to determine tone and response appropriateness.
• Review and direct incoming international media requests for interviews or interactions with regional business leaders and advise in-country media leads; promote proactive engagement aligned with business strategies.
• Implement media relations policies, standards, and processes to uphold consistent communication practices across APAC.
• Facilitate connections between country Corporate Relations teams and Group-level standards, guidelines, and best practices to harmonize messaging regionally, including acting as a resource for media advice, supporting regional communities of practice, circulating Group messaging and holding statements, and where necessary, serving as regional approver.
• Collaborate with Group teams to monitor effectiveness and reach of Shell's messaging campaigns through data and analytics, informing ongoing actions.
• Provide disclosure assistance to country leads as necessary.

Experience working with senior executives by providing strategic advice and building trusted partnerships driving business outcomes is important. Candidates should possess excellent writing capabilities backed by a record of creating engaging, innovative content and an ability to leverage data and insights for strategic decision-making.
