Job description
Overview
This role is for a Community Safety Street Intervention Officer based in Birmingham. The position is designed to strengthen neighbourhood safety by being a visible presence, responding early to anti-social behaviour, and helping to improve quality of life for residents. The approach combines engagement, education, and enforcement to address nuisance behaviour and breaches of public space rules.
Working Pattern and Pay
You will work 37.5 hours each week, following a rota across 5 days out of 7. Shifts are 8 hours long and fall between 06:00 and 22:00. The pay rate is £14.50 per hour, with weekly pay. The role is available for an immediate start.
Key Duties
- Carry out visible patrols to discourage anti-social behaviour and improve public safety.
- Look into reports of ASB and use delegated enforcement powers where appropriate, including FPNs, CPNs, and injunctions.
- Work with local communities and partner organisations to support people with complex needs and encourage inclusion.
- Help deliver projects focused on issues such as car cruising, off-road biking, and disorder in parks and housing estates.
- Partner with youth services and internal teams to reduce crime and intolerance.
- Prepare evidence for legal action and keep clear, accurate case records.
- Offer guidance on community safety and crime prevention.
- Coordinate with Police, CCTV teams, and other agencies to manage incidents and support safety campaigns.
- Protect confidential information and follow data protection requirements.
- Take part in service planning, performance monitoring, and ongoing improvement work.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should have GCSEs including English and Maths, or be able to show equivalent capability through relevant experience. It is also important to have, or be prepared to work towards, an additional qualification relevant to ASB, criminal law, enforcement, or a similar area. Strong experience in customer service and anti-social behaviour or enforcement settings is required, along with experience of working in partnership-based environments.
Skills and Personal Attributes
The successful candidate should be confident in investigation, report writing, negotiation, and applying legislation. You should be able to solve problems, prioritise work independently, and communicate effectively with both colleagues and the public. The role calls for someone who can represent the Council professionally, remain calm under pressure, manage conflict well, and deliver difficult messages tactfully. Being mobile across the city, adaptable, self-driven, and focused on practical solutions is essential. You must also be willing to work outside standard hours, including on-call duties.
Training and Development
The organisation is committed to supporting ongoing professional development, including supervision and continued learning.
Additional Requirements
You should be capable of making sound decisions in situations involving pressure or risk, and you must support equal opportunities while following Council policies.
Employment and Payroll Information
You will receive a separate contract of employment from your employer. Pay is issued weekly on a Friday through HIVE 360 Payroll Services Provider. You will not be employed directly by Kingdom Service Group Ltd, though there may be an opportunity in the future to transfer to a Kingdom contract if requested.
How to Apply
Applicants who are keen to support the local community and contribute to safer neighbourhoods are encouraged to apply.
