Role Overview
The Funds & Asset Management team in Toronto is seeking an Analyst to support coverage of selected sub-sectors within the group. The team works across fund ratings analysis, methodology and model development, and research on analytical and regulatory topics affecting the asset management industry.
The group covers a wide range of areas including private equity fund finance and securitizations, leveraged closed-end funds, money market funds, bond funds, exchange traded funds, local government investment pools, and asset managers.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute to analysis, research, and rating work across fund and structured finance products. You will also engage with market participants and help advance the team’s methodologies and tools.
- Assess both quantitative and qualitative factors that affect the credit strength of funds and structured transactions, including portfolio-level analysis
- Run or lead on-site due diligence discussions with fund managers
- Help design and improve rating methodologies for funds and related structures in response to market needs
- Write research on trends and developments relevant to the sectors covered by the team
- Examine legal transaction documents such as indentures and prospectuses
- Build and maintain financial models and databases
- Prepare and present rating recommendations to committee members
- Support the growth of team members through mentoring and direction
- Take part in industry events and interact with investors, bankers, fund managers, and other market participants
Requirements
The ideal candidate should bring a solid finance background, strong analytical ability, and clear communication skills. The level of the role will depend on the candidate’s experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in finance; exposure to funds or structured finance transactions is an advantage
- A strong academic record with a minimum bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, economics, statistics, accounting, or computer science
- Good analytical skills and strong working knowledge of Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Preferred Background
- Prior experience in fund finance, such as subscription facilities or NAV facilities
- Familiarity with SQL, VBA, or other programming languages
- Evidence of initiative and a strong record of achievement
