Role overview
The Lab In-Charge ensures that raw aluminium inputs, molten metal, in-process material, and completed aluminium wire rods meet the required quality standards. This position is accountable for confirming chemical composition, electrical conductivity, UTS, dimensional accuracy, and other customer-specific parameters.
Key responsibilities
- Check and approve aluminium raw materials received at the plant.
- Carry out chemical analysis and prepare alloy combinations according to customer needs.
- Provide the Production team with the required chemical composition before melting begins.
- Track quality throughout melting, casting, rolling, and coiling stages.
- Confirm molten metal composition before casting and suggest corrective measures when required.
- Examine finished wire rods for diameter, surface quality, ovality, weight, conductivity, UTS, elongation, and related specifications.
- Perform chemical, physical, and mechanical tests as part of quality verification.
- Draft Chemical Analysis Reports, Material Test Certificates (MTCs), inspection documents, and other quality records.
- Keep calibration logs updated and ensure lab instruments operate correctly.
- Work with Production to address quality concerns and reduce rejection and rework.
- Guide laboratory staff and assist with internal, customer, and third-party audits.
Required background and expertise
- Solid understanding of aluminium metallurgy and wire rod manufacturing processes.
- Practical knowledge of chemical composition control, conductivity testing, and UTS testing.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing procedures and quality documentation.
- Strong analytical ability, reporting skills, and problem-solving approach.
- Diploma or B.Tech in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5 to 10 years of experience in an Aluminium Rolling Mill, Aluminium Wire Rod Plant, or Continuous Casting Plant.
