Job description
Role overview
Oranga Tamariki is inviting expressions of interest for a fixed-term Allied Support Worker position based in Masterton with the Caregiver Recruitment and Support Team. The assignment runs for 12 months and may be extended. This is a full-time, onsite role supporting social workers rather than carrying social work cases or acting as a para-social worker.
There is a salary package starting from $68,371, with the exact level depending on experience.
This opportunity is suitable for someone studying toward a relevant qualification or someone with experience supporting children, young people, and families in community-based settings. The role is non-regulated and focuses on practical assistance to enable social workers to deliver services effectively.
What the role involves
- Helping social workers with home visits, administrative work, and transporting tamariki and rangatahi.
- Providing support across the site as needed, depending on day-to-day team priorities.
- Entering case notes and other records into CYRAS and related systems.
- Driving children and young people between locations such as appointments, school, and sport, under social worker direction and supervision.
- Supporting the preparation and administration of Family Group Conferences when admin staff or coordinators are unavailable.
- Assisting with care arrangements for tamariki and rangatahi when they are out of school or waiting for placements.
- Handling administrative arrangements for children in placement or moving into programmes, with supervision from a social worker.
- Supporting children and young people at school, including settling in and returning after time away.
- Carrying out supervised access and visitation duties, including driving clients and overseeing contact where required.
- Building effective working relationships with internal teams, external partners, and other stakeholders.
- Working some weekends and after-hours when required.
What you need to bring
- An interest in, or current study toward, a relevant tertiary qualification.
- A clean, current full driver’s licence and a willingness to drive Ministry vehicles; historic convictions may be considered individually.
- Experience supporting people in community settings or helping those in need.
- Comfort working with emotionally difficult situations and responding with empathy.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to work well with colleagues and external stakeholders in a collaborative environment.
- Intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft suite.
- A steady, professional manner when dealing with stressful or emotionally complex situations.
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
What is on offer
- Competitive pay starting at $68,371, based on experience.
- Training and professional development to support your growth.
- A workplace committed to diversity, inclusion, and respect.
- The chance to contribute to the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi.
