Job description

About the Role

BAT is growing quickly into a worldwide, multi-category company with a mission to build a smokeless world and create a better tomorrow. This position supports that mission by helping identify and disrupt illegal operators, reducing illicit trade and opening up commercial opportunities for the business.

The role focuses on gathering and analysing publicly available information to identify people and entities involved in the manufacture, movement and sale of illicit tobacco products. It also involves coordinating with government and enforcement authorities to support action against illicit trade, including the seizure and destruction of illegal products.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver timely, detailed public information that helps shape AIT activity in the market and supports business decision-making.
  • Review information from multiple sources, verify accuracy, spot missing pieces, and turn findings into practical recommendations.
  • Keep a strong understanding of illicit trade patterns, the factors driving them, and the scale of the problem in the relevant market.
  • Monitor the AIT landscape continuously so that emerging threats can be identified early and plans can be adjusted accordingly.
  • Prepare analytical summaries, strategic public information reports, and target profiles to help the AIT Manager make informed decisions.
  • Respond to information and support requests from internal teams and external partners such as CORA, SP&I, and law enforcement.
  • Help manage public information collection programmes and understand how service providers are used in that process.
  • Carry out open-source research on illicit trade trends and build thorough profiles of AIT targets.
  • Take part in training sessions and capacity-building workshops for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to stakeholder mapping by identifying the internal and external parties required to deliver results.
  • Work in line with the AIT strategy for the market and ensure all analysis supports that strategy.
  • When needed, provide analytical support across multiple markets and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Combine public information with internal commercial market research to identify contestable market opportunities, working closely with local market research and SP&I teams.

Knowledge and Experience

The ideal candidate should be comfortable producing high-quality analysis and briefings under deadlines and without close supervision. You should know how to find relevant information proactively, communicate clearly in both written and spoken form, and work confidently with cross-functional partners including BAT managers, lawyers, law enforcement officials, and service providers.

Strong organisation and prioritisation skills are essential, along with the ability to manage several demanding tasks without affecting quality. You will also need to handle sensitive information responsibly, share it appropriately within the organisation when required, and approach challenges with creativity and fresh thinking. A solid grasp of illicit trade, related legal considerations, and evidential requirements is important for success in this role.

Working Relationships

You will regularly liaise with the end-market AIT Manager, SPI counterparts in market, service providers, internal and external legal advisors, BAT subject matter experts, and national enforcement bodies.

What BAT Offers

  • A market-leading annual performance bonus, subject to eligibility.
  • Country-specific benefits that may include health plans, work-life balance initiatives, transport support, and a flexible holiday plan with additional incentives.
  • Strong support for internal growth and progression, with career development backed by an environment that values advancement.
  • Access to online learning tools and personalised development programmes to build leadership capability.
  • A culture of continuous improvement in a business that is actively adapting to change.
