Job description
Role Overview
The Airport Ramp Lead plays a pivotal role in maintaining a secure and efficient work environment for ramp crew members, ensuring the safety of aircraft and optimal flight operations. This position supports the professional growth of Ramp Agents by making certain they are well-versed in ground operations alongside GAT policies and procedures, promoting exceptional customer service and punctual flight performance. The Ramp Lead also collaborates with Supervisors and management to oversee staffing and operational demands, including conducting training sessions as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently punctual and regular attendance for assigned shifts.
- Ensure Ramp Agents are properly equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ready to execute their roles.
- Contribute insights toward enhancing operational processes and efficiencies.
- Communicate operational feedback concerning flight delays and performance metrics to senior leadership.
- Address security concerns promptly and coordinate relevant meetings with leadership.
- Maintain composure under pressure while adhering to strict time schedules.
- Ensure Ramp Agents comply with uniform policies.
- Handle physical tasks including lifting, loading, unloading, and transporting passenger baggage and cargo using appropriate ground support equipment.
- Operate ground support machinery safely and efficiently.
- Prepare aircraft cabins for boarding and departure, involving cleaning seats, seat pockets, floors, galleys, and lavatories.
- Ensure availability of essential ground equipment in ramp and baggage areas for forthcoming flights.
- Adhere to company policies and federal safety standards throughout all duties.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to maintain operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum six months' experience with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Competency in using electronic devices such as computers, fax machines, printers, and timekeeping systems.
- Basic understanding of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) maintenance matters.
- Familiarity with commercial aviation business aspects.
- Completion of High School diploma or GED required.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to process information efficiently and timely.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Fluent in English, including speaking, reading, and writing.
- Basic computer literacy is essential.
- Prior experience in ramp or airline operations is preferred.
- Successful completion and continuous maintenance of all mandated training and certifications throughout employment.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Physical fitness to perform demanding activities such as standing, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling for prolonged durations.
- Capability to frequently lift weights up to 70 pounds within confined spaces.
- Willingness to work outdoors under diverse weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
Work Schedule
- Must have flexibility to work varying shifts including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Availability for extended work hours at short notice during irregular or emergency operations.
