Airfield Sweeping Technician

About the Role

The Airfield Sweeping Technician is responsible for conducting airfield sweeping and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal to ensure the safety of aircraft operations on runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, and related paved surfaces at Al Udeid Air Base. This role is crucial for maintaining continuous airfield operations by skillfully operating sweeping machinery and adhering strictly to established safety, security, and operational protocols, in alignment with U.S. military, host nation, and contractual obligations.

Job Responsibilities

• Operate specialized airfield sweeping equipment, including mechanical and vacuum sweepers.
• Execute Foreign Object Debris (FOD) removal across runways, taxiways, aprons, ramps, and shoulders.
• Conduct thorough visual inspections of airfield surfaces prior to, during, and following sweeping activities.
• Strictly adhere to airfield safety regulations and FOD prevention programs at all times.
• Coordinate access to movement areas with Airfield Management and Air Traffic Control (ATC) as instructed.
• Accurately complete all required inspection checklists, operational logs, and reports.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance checks on sweeping equipment and associated vehicles.
• Identify and promptly report any equipment malfunctions or potential safety hazards.
• Utilize all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety and security protocols.
• Provide support for emergency or urgent airfield cleaning requirements as directed.

Education & Experience

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• A minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in airfield operations, airfield maintenance, or sweeping is necessary.
• Familiarity with FOD prevention principles and airfield safety procedures is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to operate heavy or specialized sweeping equipment.

Additional Requirements

• A valid U.S. Driver’s License is mandatory.
• A valid U.S. Passport is preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Residency Visa for Qatar.
• Must be capable of working in challenging environmental conditions, including exposure to dust and high temperatures.
• Must be able to work extended hours and tolerate exposure to weather and potentially hazardous conditions.

Travel and Security

• This position requires 100% travel to the deployed location.
• A DoD Secret Clearance must be held and maintained.
