Job description

Role overview

This is a fixed-term, full-time Aircrew Officer opportunity based in Adelaide, supporting Aviation & Critical Services operations. The assignment runs through 30 September 2027 and involves work with the South Australian Ambulance Service and the South Australian Police Force. A permanent Adelaide base is preferred, though touring arrangements may also be considered.

Key duties

  • Carry out helicopter operations safely while following CASA rules, contract obligations, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Escalate operational or maintenance issues without delay.
  • Prepare and complete all required pre-flight and post-flight paperwork.
  • Support helicopter EMS, search and rescue, and South Australian Police missions.
  • Provide the pilot with clear visual observations, movement updates, clearance information, and other flight-safety-critical details.
  • Keep role equipment ready for immediate use at all times.
  • Install and operate mission-specific equipment as required.
  • Use the rescue hoist and related equipment in line with the operations manual.
  • Perform duties from the front left seat and operate with Night Vision Imaging Systems.
  • Handle aircraft preparation before flight and post-flight servicing/housekeeping.
  • Ensure the cabin and equipment are secured and configured safely.
  • Take on additional tasks assigned by the Senior Base ACO or Chief Aircrew Officer.

Requirements

  • Certificate IV in Airborne Operations (AVI40225) or Certificate IV in Aviation (AVI40116 Aircrewman or AVI40119 Aircrew Officer).
  • Current certificate of competency for winching and rappelling operations.
  • At least 500 hours of Rotary Wing Aircrew Officer experience.
  • Valid CASA Class II medical certificate.
  • Current Senior First Aid (HLTAID011) and Advanced Resuscitation (HLTAID015).
  • Current HUET with EBS.
  • Current ASIC (red).
  • Aircraft Radiotelephone Operator Certificate of Proficiency (AROC).
  • Current NVIS aircrew endorsement.
  • Dangerous goods awareness or dangerous goods pack-and-accept qualification.
  • Preferred: B412/H145 experience, HEMS experience, NVIS hoisting experience, over-water and vessel hoisting experience, front left seat experience, single ACO cabin operations experience, fast rope experience, and aerial fire support operations.
