Role summary

Working under the guidance of the Production Manager, this position focuses on avionics-related tasks within the Twin Otter final assembly operation in Calgary.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out aircraft electrical wiring and system installation work in a manufacturing production setting.
  • Use working knowledge of standard wiring practices and avionics systems, and be able to read maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, system schematics, engineering orders, and manufacturer installation instructions.
  • Keep a practical understanding of related aircraft systems such as hydraulics, flight controls, and major structural components to support avionics work.
  • Install, service, diagnose, and repair avionics systems, including communication, navigation, flight control, and entertainment equipment, while maintaining safety and proper function.
  • Build and repair components using drawings and standard procedures, including forming wire bundles and assemblies, marking wires, securing bundles, and terminating wires in connectors.
  • Perform inspections and system checks to confirm compliance with safety rules and industry standards.
  • Keep accurate and complete records of all work completed, including installations, inspections, and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate traceability for parts removed from or installed on aircraft in line with required procedures.
  • Use avionics test equipment and hand tools effectively for testing, installation, and repair, and keep tools in good working condition.

Requirements and experience

  • Current AME “E” Transport Canada licence, or progress toward obtaining it, or equivalent related experience.
  • Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Good organizational ability and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including comfort with using the internet.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada products and avionics systems is an advantage.
  • Experience with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada wiring installations is also considered an asset.
  • Background in aircraft wiring repair, fabrication, and installation.
  • Knowledge expected of an Aircraft Avionics and Electronics Technician for the aircraft types handled by the company.
  • Ability to work the stated shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM MST.

Physical requirements

  • Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to obtain a Transport Canada Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).
