Job description

About Plantible

Plantible is an innovative biology firm supported by prominent venture capitalists such as Astanor Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, Piva Capital, Kellogg’s, and Vectr Ventures. Focused on harnessing the power of plants to benefit people and the environment, our mission centers on delivering sustainable and regenerative solutions without compromising quality, initially targeting advancements in the food sector.

Your Role and Contributions

We are looking for a dedicated Agronomist specializing in Plant Biology to join our Upstream Cultivation team. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on laboratory skills, statistical data analysis abilities, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key responsibilities include monitoring and managing nutrient levels in cultivation ponds, enhancing nutrient use efficiency, and refining nutrient application techniques to optimize duckweed composition. The role also involves experimenting with process parameters to improve water flow and Lemna distribution within raceways, supporting data acquisition and sensor experimentation to scale findings from lab to pilot and commercial greenhouse environments. Occasionally, this position will require exploration of integration points between upstream cultivation and downstream protein processing to uncover process synergies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot research and development scale cultivation ponds, serving as a liaison between R&D and operations teams to facilitate technology transfer from experimental to commercial stages.
  • Plan and conduct laboratory and field trials aimed at enhancing both the quantity and quality of plant-based protein and increasing biomass yields.

Candidate Profile

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related scientific/engineering disciplines with a minimum of two years in industrial research, or hold a Master’s degree in assay development coupled with at least one year of industry experience.
  • Demonstrate expertise in evaluating plant physiology to fine-tune crop nutrition and cultivation parameters, with a strong commitment to detail-oriented experiment execution and meticulous data management.
  • Experience with plant cultivation in laboratory settings and sterile technique; knowledge in protein extraction or purification is highly advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of effective verbal and written exchanges, alongside advanced time management and organizational abilities.
  • Adaptable and self-driven, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
  • Analytical prowess for tackling complex problems, proficiency in data interpretation, including appropriate control selection and statistical analysis.
  • Creative thinker and cooperative team player, focused on driving company objectives.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10-15% to support technology transfer activities with commercial protein production operations.
