Job description

Role overview

MBIE is seeking an experienced and driven Advisor to join its Employment Relations team within the People and Culture branch. This Wellington-based permanent role offers the opportunity to contribute to fair, effective employment practices in a busy public-sector setting. The position is full-time and includes a salary band of $85,537 to $101,911, plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.

The core focus of the role is to manage Privacy Act and Official Information Act requests related to employment relations matters, making sure the branch meets its statutory responsibilities accurately and within required timeframes. Alongside that, you will help deliver dependable employment relations advice and support partnership with leaders and colleagues to achieve consistent, people-focused outcomes.

Key duties

  • Handle Privacy Act and Official Information Act requests and ensure responses are completed within legislative deadlines.
  • Support the team by providing consistent employment relations practices across the organisation.
  • Contribute to reporting, insights, and improvement work that strengthens outcomes and decision-making.
  • Spot emerging trends, risks, and opportunities to improve processes and service delivery.

Skills and experience

Success in this role calls for experience with the Privacy Act and Official Information Act, including working to statutory timeframes. You should be comfortable dealing with sensitive information professionally and discreetly, and you will need strong written and verbal communication skills to influence, build trust, and work with a range of stakeholders. The role also requires the ability to balance multiple priorities, work independently when needed, and collaborate effectively as part of a team. A solid understanding of employment relations and HR good practice is important, along with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.
